So stick with me!
Search engine optimization is a huge topic to discuss however you need to get the basics right so that you can optimize your blog posts accordingly.
But I’ll try to explain in the simplest form here.
Basically, when you search for any topic in search engines such as Google or Bing, they will pick and show you the most relevant content for that search.
That’s because the website owner has optimized its blog post for SEO.
And you are going to learn the exact same strategy that will help you get that Page 1 spot in Google.
Let’s dive in.
How to write SEO friendly blog posts?

Keep readers in your mind
Understanding who your audience is and connecting with them is the Key!
At first, you need to find out a few things about your readers such as;
- Who is your targeted audience?
- What is your audience searching for?
- What are their pain points?
- How can you solve their problem?
- What topics do they love?
- What are their demographics
Dig deeper and get to know your audience well.
Once you do that, you need to get the pulse of your audience to connect with them.
If you aren’t able to communicate in a way that allows your readers to connect and build a relationship with you, they’ll never sign up for your email list, or purchase a product or never visit your blog again.
This is what I do to get connected with my audience.
I share my personal experiences with them such as my failures, challenges, success stories, etc.
Always try to relate your stories with their stories.
For example, you can say, when I first started blogging how complex it was for me to understand SEO, I totally get it how you feel like a beginner blogger. So I am here to help you with that.
And sincerely provide solutions for their struggles.
Trust me when you truly help they will get connected with you and some will even become a big fan of you.
I hope you are getting my point of what I am trying to say here.
This brings me to the next point.
Get your keyword research right
This section alone will be a gold mine for you!
I know you’ve heard a lot of times about keyword research. But if you are following me you know I like to simplify everything for you.
Before you even write on a topic, you need to do thorough keyword research.
Choosing the right keyword will determine if you can get Google love and drive organic traffic to your blog in the long run.
So how to do the keyword research correctly?
To find out that golden keyword you need to use keyword research tools.
There are a variety of keyword research tools available in the market.
Another alternative tool that I prefer is Ubersuggest.
I even use SEMrush to dig deeper (more on this later).
The process is simple, at first you need to input a broad keyword in these tools. It will give you a list of keywords to choose from.
The best practice is to pick a longtail keyword that has high search volumes and low keyword competition.
For this example, let’s search for the term “Paleo”. You can see the list of longtail keywords. I would choose “Paleo diet recipes” because it has a monthly search volume between 1-10k and is considered a Low competition keyword.
This keyword will be your focus keyword or main keyword. It means people will more likely use this key phrase to search in Google.
So you can rank faster in Google for that particular keyword. Thus it will improve your DA (Domain authority) in the long run.
Now that you have your main keyword how and where to use it?
Consider using your main keyword in the following places;
- First (Introductory paragraph)
- Blog URL
- Throughout the blog post (sprinkle it 2-3 times for every 1000 words)
- Alt image & description
- Meta description
Once you find the main keyword it’s time to find LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keyword.
The easiest way to find the LSI keyword is to simply put in your main keyword in the Google search.
When you scroll down to the bottom of the page you’ll notice “related searches”.
Sprinkle as many keywords as possible. I normally use 10-15 keywords for a 3000-word blog post.
Keep one thing in mind, do not keyword stuff for the purpose of SEO. It will sound robotic and provide a bad experience to your readers.
The key is to write for humans and Google will rank you better!
However, with Free tools, you get limited data and can’t go deeper for more information.
As the saying goes.
“You get what you pay for”
The fastest way to outrank your competitor is to steal their data and make it better!
Yes, you heard me right!
You can steal their data by using SEMrush which is a paid tool.
SEMrush is such a powerful tool that will help you do keyword research in the most comprehensive and magical way.
Not only that, but it also gives you the backlink data and opportunities.
What’s even crazier is it runs a complete SEO audit of your site and shows you things like;
- Duplicate content and Title tag
- Broken links
- Page load speed
- Images with empty ‘alt’ tags
- Missing meta description and title tags
- Low word count
- HTTPS implementation issues
- Nofollow attributes on links
- And much more.
Not yet, they even tell you how to fix each of them which can be fixed in just 5 minutes.
SEMrush is worth giving a try because it let you do everything at one place so you don’t need to hire an expert for marketing or SEO related purpose.
Best of all, they offer a free 7-day trial. So there is No RISK for you to try it out.
Pro Tip: If the budget is really a big deal for you, then free 7 days is more than enough to gather all the data and keywords for your next 20-30 blog posts.
Make your title click-worthy
The title of your blog posts is an important factor for search engines.
A catchy blog post title will get your readers to click on it when they search online.
It increases your CTR (Click Through Rate) which plays a vital role in improving the SEO.
Needless to say, a click-worthy headline motivates your readers as much as it helps SEO.
The best practice is to add your focus keyword to your title to make it SEO friendly.
But the question is how to write a click-worthy title?
Using power words will have a psychological impact on the minds of your readers.
For example, check out one of my blog post titles.
The word “Guaranteed” pushes users to click on it as it increases curiosity.
Sure, getting readers to click on your title is great but make sure your rest of the blog content is equally important by providing meaty content.
This will ensure people stick to your website thus help reduce the bounce rate.

Write like you talk to your friends
This is one of my favorite parts of writing.
By now you may have noticed how friendly I sound when I write.
You need to make sure you are never rude in your writing, even in your comments (if you happened to get negative comments).
Use everyday language (simple English) so that everyone can understand you well.
Nobody wants to read blog posts that sound like a professor giving a boring lecture in the classroom.
So make it interesting by sharing personal thoughts and being sound like a friend.
More importantly, share your honest opinion and be transparent with your readers.
This way you can build a loyal relationship with them.
Add Images and Videos to Your Blog Posts
Adding images and videos to your blog post is far more engaging than plain text.
Ranking in search engines is much easier if you have more engagement.
So make sure to sprinkle interesting images and videos between paragraphs.
I’ve noticed some of the newbie bloggers copy images from any random website and insert it into their website.
AVOID THIS MISTAKE!
You’ll be in legal trouble for copyright. You cannot use other’s pictures without their permission.
There are plenty of websites that offer royalty-free images that you can use.
Some of them are
Either way, make sure to compress the image when you upload it to your blog.
I use a free image compressor called Optimizilla.

If you haven’t then you should because it’s a must-have plugin that will show you how to write SEO-friendly blog posts with so much ease.
